Foreigners’ Appetite For Stocks

In February 2010 the investment of foreign equity participation stock surged 82.86 percent over the same period in 2009.

These figures are in line with the reports submitted by the CSE under which the trading volume in shares during December 2009 was 5.37 billion dollars, 84.80 percent more compared to December 2008, when it negotiated 2 90 billion pesos.

In addition to this, in the first two months of 2010, the IGBC has achieved a growth of 1.05 percent.

Tied to this turnaround is the fact that the Colombian economy during 2009 has registered a growth of 0.4 percent compared to 2008, when the expected months ago was even negative.

However, at the end of 2009 the portfolio of investment funds with foreign capital participation stock stood at 6.76 billion pesos, which shows that in the first quarter of 2010 a decline equivalent to 4.29 percent 291 billion pesos.

However, the news-side investments in debt securities are not the best.

Why? while in February 2009, the portfolio of foreign equity funds in debt securities stood at 1.56 trillion pesos, the figure at the end of the first two months of 2010 fell to 1.33 billion pesos.

The trend in the bond market internationally, emphasizes we was slightly downward, given the increase in spreads on sovereign bonds increased perception of risk in some European countries. He adds that in Colombia, was a downward trend in the value of long-term TES, but an increase in the value of the roles for shorter periods.

  2. We would have to equal with the government’s creditors, both abroad and domestic, and reconstitute our debt. We would ultimately and frankly announce bankruptcy. The dollar would lose value as a result. We will lose our world reserve currency position. The costs of elementary goods and overseas made productions will increase while our wages will in effect remain flat or decrease. It will be the fall of America akin to the fall of the Soviet Union in the late 80s and 90s.
